Ovid Technologies, provider of electronic medical, scientific, and academic research information solutions, has announced its next generation federated search solution, SearchSolver. Ovid SearchSolver is a federated search and resource discovery tool intended to allow organizations to simplify access to online information. With SearchSolver as a single point of access and authentication, users can conduct one-step searches across hundreds of information sources. Unified results can further be edited and ranked as well as exported in research work tools.

SearchSolver is designed for online environments and capitalizes on Ovid's knowledge of bibliographic and full text database structure. By addressing the proliferation of Google-type searching, SearchSolver is designed to normalize the experience for today's end-users by integrating disparate silos of information and presents results in a Web-based format. Results also display information source names (i.e. bibliographic database brands).

Designed to integrate with existing research environments, SearchSolver's functionality allows users to: search an unlimited number of sources simultaneously; search across ALL types of sources from multiple vendors, including electronic journals, bibliographic databases, Internet portals, and OPACs; display results, rank or export consistently across all interfaces in a single step; refine and limit search results using the SearchSolver interface. Advanced query parsing allows users to search beyond keyword (also title, author, descriptors); explore a topic further using a specific database's native interface; link out to external sources, using Ovid LinkSolver or other OpenURL resolvers.
