Copernic has announced the availability of a new version (1.5) of its Copernic Desktop Search (CDS) product that is designed to fully support Mozilla Thunderbird, including indexing of Thunderbird emails, attachments, and contacts. Copernic has also announced support for indexing Eudora emails and attachments as well as new features based on feedback from users. In CDS 1.5, each desktop search in a specific category now automatically displays a summary box with the number of matching results in all other categories. Other features include color-coded highlighted search term buttons, support for indexing of network drives, filmstrip viewing of images, an embedded audio/video player, and the ability to search JPEG picture comments, iTunes songs by artist and album, and metadata indexing of QuickTime movies and OGG audio files. CDS is designed to allow users to instantly search files, emails, and email attachments stored anywhere on a PC hard drive, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files, Acrobat PDF's, music, picture, and video formats, contacts, browser history, and favorites. CDS works with Windows 98/Me/NT/2000/XP and Internet Explorer 5.0 or later. The new CDS version can be downloaded for free as a "public beta" release.
