Alexander Street Press has acquired Classical Music Library. The acquisition of the library music reference service is intended to allow Alexander Street to add audio capabilities to their text- and image-based humanities collections. Alexander Street will continue to grow the existing Classical Music Library service, adding it to their catalog of indexes and full-text collections, and will also use the newly-acquired music platform to create new collections—both new music services and new collections that combine music, text, and images.

Classical Music Library is a searchable classical music resource for libraries. It contains tens of thousands of licensed recording tracks that users listen to on the Internet. The audio selections are cross-referenced to a database of supplementary reference information. Users browse, search, click, and then listen to the music through headphones. Tim Lloyd, who has been CEO of Classical International, will move to Alexander Street's offices in Alexandria, Va. Roger Press, who has been in charge of developing content for Classical Music Library, will continue in that role.

Alexander Street Press, L.L.C., is an academic publisher of electronic full-text databases and indexes in the humanities and social sciences. The company publishes resources in history, literature, women's studies, sociology, ethnic and diversity studies, popular culture, film studies, the arts, music, and other areas.
