TripleHop Technologies has released the results of an Enterprise Search survey of approximately 200 end-users. Results from the Enterprise Search survey were compiled in the first quarter of 2004 and included respondents from the legal, media, life science, sales and marketing and information technology professions. To collect data for the online survey, TripleHop commissioned MarketInk to use an email methodology to randomly encourage participants by email invitation to participate.

According to the survey, 53% of corporate workers report they spend more than three hours a week searching for relevant information to perform their job functions. Forty-three percent of respondents indicate they spend two-three hours a week recreating information that already exists. The survey also indicates that corporate workers use internal sources (shared files systems, Intranet) and external sources of information (the Internet) almost equally as their main information source--36% vs. 33%. Fifty-eight percent of respondents indicated they do not receive relevant and timely search results by using exact keyword searches so they combine several keywords in an attempt to increase relevancy.
