Information Today, Inc. announced the program for its WebSearch University conference and for the new Enterprise Search Summit scheduled for May 11-12, 2004 at the Hilton New York. Now in its fifth year, WebSearch University offers interactive sessions led by the following faculty: Mary Ellen Bates, Tara Calishain, Greg Notess, Marydee Ojala, Gary Price, and Genie Tyburski. For those attendees who want to enhance their skills in a specific area, a separate day of pre-conference workshops led by select members of the faculty is also scheduled. Some of the topics that will be covered include: trends in Web searching; why SEO matters; adding value with post-processing; and when not to use Google. Register for the New York conference by April 16, 2004, and save $100 off the conference registration. In coming months, there will also be more details on the Washington, D.C., conference in September with the same faculty and similar courses.

ITI designed Enterprise Search Summit specifically for IT managers, information and knowledge architects, content managers, and Web publishers and developers tasked with implementing site search functions within their organizations. Instructors include: Stephen Arnold, Tony Byrne, Joseph Busch, Susan Feldman, Peter Morville, Avi Rappoport, Martin White, and Eric Woods. EnterpriseSearch Summit is intended to give attendees a solid foundation in how to master the complexities of when and how to apply classification schema, solutions for searching structured and unstructured content, and how to determine which features are essential and which search software is right for their needs. Other topics that will be covered include: the why and how of metadata; how to design a taxonomy; why search fails and how to fix it; and making the business case for search. Enterprise Search Summit is produced by ITI in conjunction with the following companies as Premium Sponsors: Inxight Software, Convera, Fast Search & Transfer, Endeca, Northern Light, OpenText, Google, and Verity, Inc. The Asilomar Institute for Information Architecture is an Association Sponsor.
