Verity Inc. has announced the availability of Verity Ultraseek release 5.2. The newest version of the company's downloadable enterprise search software incorporates five new features that are intended to improve upon the product's search relevance capability and end-user experience while making it easier to integrate into a wide range of application environments. The enhancements are: New Web Services Interface; Portlet Integration with Leading Applications; JavaScript Spidering Capabilities; Expanded Document Highlighting; and Easy Migration Path to Ultraseek from Verity Information Server.

Verity's integration of search into mixed application environments is intended to simplify with a new Web Services interface available in version 5.2 of Verity Ultraseek, which supports both .NET and J2EE platforms. Existing portal, content management, and other applications based on BEA, Vignette, TIBCO, or IBM WebSphere can now have search capabilities added with new pre-built Verity portlets. For those organizations using the Verity Information Server software, Verity Ultraseek's new Upgrade Wizard provides a migration path and the insinuation of the search engine into their intellectual capital management systems. During the Ultraseek implementation process, Verity Ultraseek automatically detects the Information Server configuration settings and mirrors them in the Ultraseek setup.

JavaScript spidering capabilities have been added to Verity Ultraseek's intelligent, adaptive spider indexes that can turn the myriad of document types and file formats spread across the typical enterprise into a single body of intellectual capital that is searchable with a single query.  With this new capability, Verity Ultraseek can find and index dynamically-generated Web pages. Structured and unstructured information sources can also be brought together in the index through Ultraseek's optional lightweight database connectivity.

Verity Ultraseek's ability to automatically highlight query terms within documents--allowing users to quickly scan retrieved documents to determine whether they contain the desired information--has been expanded to include formats such as Microsoft Word and Excel through inclusion of Verity KeyView Export.

Term highlighting capability, especially useful when dealing with lengthy documents, handles content in any supported language. Verity Ultraseek supports complete grammatical and lexical analysis of multiple languages, including localized interfaces and support for Unicode character sets.  Fifteen language modules are available, including Arabic, Chinese, and Japanese.
