Verity Inc. has announced the availability of its initial Verity Taxonomies, six customizable classification structures that are designed to speed and simplify the organization and management of content in large-scale global enterprises.

The six Verity Taxonomies are based on open industry standards, and built using the same query language used in Verity K2 Enterprise content organization products. Verity Taxonomies are also customizable by customers to serve their business requirements, both enterprise-wide and departmental. This customization can be performed by an enterprise's administrator, or by Verity Professional Services. Verity Taxonomies include: Verity Pharmaceutical Taxonomy, Verity Defense Taxonomy, Verity Homeland Security Taxonomy, Verity Human Resources Taxonomy, Verity Sales & Marketing Taxonomy, and Verity Information Technology Taxonomy.

Verity Pharmaceutical Taxonomy--The National Library of Medicine's Medical Subject Headings taxonomy has been converted to a taxonomy file with Verity business rules. This open source resource includes over 300,000 terms and topics such as "inorganic chemicals," "anatomy & physiology," "chemical actions," and "amino acids, peptides, proteins."

Verity Defense Taxonomy--The foundation of this taxonomy is the Defense Technical Information Center thesaurus published by the U.S. Department of Defense. It provides a multidisciplinary vocabulary that includes nearly 12,000 topics, such as "communications," "guided missile technology," and "navigation," as well as information on general topics such as "chemistry," "physics," and "atmospheric sciences."

Verity Homeland Security Taxonomy--This Verity taxonomy includes more than 700 categories on broad topics such as "foreign terrorist organizations," "weapons of mass destruction," and "border and transportation security," as well as narrower subjects like "passenger list," "cargo security," "biometric systems," and "contamination control."

Verity Human Resources Taxonomy --Verity engineered this taxonomy to provide a method for handling medical, dental, and vision care benefits, personnel practices, privacy issues, salary management, as well as risk management among other matters of concern to human resources departments or entire organizations.

Verity Sales & Marketing Taxonomy--This taxonomy is a collection of topics associated with sales and marketing, from product nomenclature, features and functions, rates or pricing, geographies, distribution arrangements, and more.

Verity Information Technology Taxonomy--Targeted for companies offering IT products and services, this taxonomy gives engineers, sales and operations managers of a high tech company access to its internal and external information sources. It includes a variety of IT topics including operating systems, DSL, IT security, and storage area networks.

Verity has also established strategic partnerships with taxonomy vendors to provide additional vertically oriented taxonomies and consulting services to meet Verity customers' business requirements.
