Scopeware, an information management software company has announced the availability of Scopeware Vision 2.1, a search utility that is designed to integrate real-time information from the Web with documents, email, and other digital files.  Scopeware Vision 2.1 makes use of Real Simple Syndication (RSS), an XML Web-based technology that feeds content from Web sites directly to your personal PC. By incorporating an RSS reader into the traditional Scopeware interface, Vision 2.1 is intended as a personal information management tool to integrate data on the desktop and real-time content such as news from the Web.

Scopeware Vision 2.1 integrates RSS feeds with the content on your computer. Scopeware Vision's interface responds to keyword searches by displaying the results in visual, chronological streams. Search results include RSS feeds and most standard file types- including digital photos, mp3s, Adobe PDFs, Web pages, Outlook and Outlook Express email, and Microsoft Office documents and non-standard file types defined by the user. The software features several preloaded RSS feeds so that users can access online news and content from sites like CNN, Rolling Stone and Yahoo News. A dialog box lets users add feeds based on their interests. Other new Vision 2.1 features include: integration with Microsoft Outlook contacts, calendar, tasks, and notes listings; a larger preview pane option; hit highlighting; navigation through date-based streams; a faster thumbnailing engine; channel bars for one-click access to specific filtered content; and the ability to add metadata keywords to chosen documents.

Scopeware Vision is available in a Personal and Professional editions. Vision Professional 2.1 also includes the following add-on modules: CRM Module--Integrates Outlook contacts, calendar, and appointments with information. The user can then select a contact name from the list and a search will find all the information associated with that person including emails and files. It also features access to the personal contact card with a view of the contact's phone number and email address. Zip Module:--Supports indexing of Zip files and their contents. For users with compressed files in the Zip format, Vision catalogs the contents of Zip files for complete access to all information in the archive. Vision treats information in a Zip file like any other file during a keyword search. Archive Module--Supports indexing of CD/DVDs and their contents. For users with files archived to CDs and DVDs, Vision catalogs the contents of CDs and DVDs and their locations. Vision will tell the location of information in a file or email that has been catalogued and the CD/DVD it is stored on.

Scopeware Vision 2.1 is available for purchase and as a free trial online. Scopeware Vision Personal, with searching capabilities on the desktop and limited features, is currently available for purchase at $29.95. Scopeware Professional, including searching capabilities on the desktop and shared network drives as well as the full list of features, is priced at $79.95. Upgrades to the latest version of Scopeware Vision are available for owners.
