Enterprise search vendors Convera and Intelliseek have announced a partnership designed to extend distribution and bring greater functionality to their current product offerings. Under the agreement, Convera will add new federated search capability to its product line by offering Intelliseek's Enterprise Search Server (ESS) solution as an optional component of Convera's RetrievalWare search and categorization platform. Intelliseek will become a reseller of Convera's RetrievalWare product to add indexing and search of internal content to Intelliseek's product line. Intelliseek's ESS solution is pre-configured for over 1,000 different Internet and legacy search engines. Customers can purchase an optional Agent Development Kit featuring a point-and-click interface to create new adaptors for additional sources.

Convera has also announced that Kumba Resources, a South African mining company, is using Convera's RetrievalWare search and categorization technology on its corporate Intranet in an effort to enable its 6,800 employees to more quickly and accurately access industry news, research, and other corporate data. RetrievalWare's profiling capability also enables employees to track information that is of specific interest to them, such as mining regions, countries, or individual people. As new information is indexed, employees are alerted via email if a news story or a report is posted that relates to their interests. Using Kumba's new system, staff can access timely, accurate information regardless of their physical location and A Web-based interface now provides access to a single, integrated platform for all of Kumba's information. The solution was installed by Knowledge Focus, Convera's Southern Africa-based integration partner. Knowledge Focus has experience in the field of knowledge management and digital asset management, and specializes in competitive intelligence and strategic market intelligence applications. Their customers include Eskom, NEMISA (National Electronic Media Institute of South Africa), M-Net, and the South African government.
