BrightPlanet Corporation, a provider of document harvest and management, has announced the formation of a strategic alliance with Factiva, a Dow Jones and Reuters company and provider of news and information, to provide improved data access to BrightPlanet's customers specifically in the government sector. As a key element of this collaboration, BrightPlanet has released a new Factiva Access Module, allowing integration of Factiva's content into BrightPlanet's Deep Query Manager (DQM) software. BrightPlanet's DQM is an automated search platform that "harvests" from search engines, directories, and databases as it scours the Deep Web and the surface web. As part of this alliance, BrightPlanet has introduced the Factiva Access Module, which directly integrates the full range of Factiva news and information, including embedded metadata, into the DQM, and federates that information with open-source information from internet and intranet sources.

Factiva has also introduced its enhanced Taxonomy Warehouse. Taxonomy Warehouse is a community directory and information source for taxonomies, thesauri, and classification schemes. It is designed to provide enterprises and academic and government organizations with information to categorize internal and external data collections. Factiva's Taxonomy Warehouse enhancements include: the addition of more than 100 new taxonomies, including: Alternative Medicine, American Industries, Business, Energy, Explosives and Related Items, Genetic Disorders, Health, Safety, and Environmental Data, and the Public Health; a newly designed website featuring navigation among taxonomies and classification schemes; a new A-Z index; a new search function that enables users to find vocabularies, publishers, and categories using keywords of their choice; up-to-date information about taxonomy references, resources, latest news, and events; and links to professional associations and organizations for solutions to a company's taxonomy needs.

It lists more than 650 taxonomies arranged in 73 subject domains, produced by nearly 300 publishers in 40 languages. Factiva also offers a taxonomy consultancy, Factiva Taxonomy Services, which provides organizations with advice on taxonomy development, highly scalable teams of taxonomists, taxonomy management software solutions, and expert assistance with content integration.
