Endeca, a search and information access company, has announced that it has been awarded U.S. Patent No. 7,035,864 covering the company's hierarchical data-driven navigation system and method for information retrieval, known in the search and information access markets as the Guided Navigation experience.

Guided Navigation is designed to help people using Web or enterprise applications to find relevant information by guiding them in an interface that always keeps information in context. The context is created by dynamically exposing the dimensions, attributes, and other relationships in the underlying data set. This experience is designed to help people navigate content, analyze information sets, refine search results lists, and combine search and browse behaviors.
