JBoss has introduced Version 2.4 of its open source portal platform, which the company emphasizes, adds support for the Web Services for Remote Portlets (WSRP) specification, an important standard for enterprise portals and service-oriented architectures (SOAs).

The company further says with this release, along with related announcements of its Operations Network 1.2 offering and solution certification for customer applications, JBoss is enhancing its support for enterprise customers across the entire application life cycle--from design and development, to testing and integration, to deployment and maintenance.

The company says WSRP support in JBoss Portal 2.4 extends to both the producer (i.e., portlet containers), and the consumer, which is the system communicating with presentation-oriented Web services on behalf of users. Version 2.4 supports service description and markup interfaces and implicit cloning for both producers and consumers.
