Vivisimo, a creator of software to access and cluster information for better search and discovery, has announced Velocity Universal Connect, plug-and-play connectivity to third-party search and content application connectors. Available immediately, Universal Connect ensures that Velocity customers can search, federate or key-match content from any application or repository supporting open Web frameworks and feeds, such as RSS and Atom, and vendor-specific connectors, including A9's OpenSearch and Google OneBox.

Velocity already enables enterprises to connect to third party applications, including Documentum, Microsoft SharePoint and Lotus Notes, through their native Web interfaces or APIs without the presence of an intermediary software layer or middleware. Velocity can also connect to any resource accessible through a Web browser or that supports standard protocols like LDAP or z39.50. Velocity Universal Connect serves as an access point for open Web frameworks and feeds. Velocity also allows users to: manage multiple security credentials to provide a secure federated search of password-protected content repositories; reduce reliance on exact keyword and expression matches by enabling triggers based on database matches, number of search results, relevance or freshness of the information, etc.; and blend results from across resources in one view using multiple ranking criteria.

Vivisimo Velocity Universal Connector is a free component of the Velocity search platform. They can be downloaded immediately from the Velocity Web Administrative Interface and require no upgrading on the part of the customer.
