IBM has announced a new integrated enterprise search solution with X1 Technologies, a provider of desktop search solutions, which will provide a single interface for both desktop and enterprise-wide searches using IBM's enterprise search technology.

This integration will provide IBM Web Sphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition customers the ability to search and retrieve various types of content and data located on their personal computer and throughout their organization using the X1 desktop search solution. This software enables users to access nearly 400 different types of documents and data file formats and provide the ability to search IBM Lotus Notes and Microsoft Outlook email messages, and attachments.

Web Sphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition provides search over large volumes of information distributed throughout the enterprise, stored in a wide variety of repositories such as in databases and content management systems. The solution also allows users to access Web Sphere Information Integrator from the desktop to both search and act upon information accessed from the X1 desktop search solution. For example, content from a range of applications such as document management systems, databases, or content management systems can be invoked, changed or deleted directly within the X1 search results window.

The Web Sphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition integration with the X1 desktop search solution will be available from IBM and X1 Technologies in September 2005.
